Oldie but a goodie

Here's an old life drawing I ran across from my student days. It felt sooooooooo good to get a nice drawing back then (still does, but practice makes the good ones come on a more predictable schedule now.).

Look I even did a little value thumbnail before I began (what a good student). :)

Head drawing from life

A bunch more head drawings from my neighborhood, work, and other strange ports of call.

Figure drawing

Every time I draw the human figure from life, It gets just a tiny, tiny bit easier to see and capture it's rhythms, gestures, and essence. The human body is such a wonderful and beautiful thing. We are fearfully and wonderfully made.

Marshall Vandruff sketches

I made all these sketches from life during an anatomy course I took will Marshall Vandruff (for the 6th time... It's that good). Can't tell you how much I've got out of taking workshops with Marshall Vandruff. What a great guy what a gifted teacher! I got nothing but Love and respect for ya Marshall. Really a teachers, teacher. If your an artist, especially if you consider yourself a visual story teller you really owe it to yourself to take a workshop with Marshall. My guess is it will be the best money you've ever spent on an art related workshop. (www.marshallart.com)

Heads, Hands and Trees.

More Drawings of everyday people and things, from: buses, wineries, conventions and the like.

Tree in watercolor @ AIOC

Heres a Tree in the Patio area outside of the College I teach at...If you go to AIOC you might recognize it, it's over by building B.

More from life.

More drawings from life including a rare glimpse of comic artist Doug Tennapel! I spotted Doug in the wild and was lucky enough to get this quick sketch of him. Can you find Doug amongst all the other figures? Hint: He's lean, dapperly dressed and approximately 12' tall.

Digital sketching in San Francisco.

*I found one last set of Iphone sketches . I would personally recommend getting "Brushes" as a digital sketch app and using a PenGo Stylus to sketch with if you wanna try mobile sketching. Most of these were drawn on the B.A.R.T. (Bay Area Rapid Transit) during a trip I took to San Francisco. P.S. don't ever refer to the city as "Frisco", it's a noob way to say the city name and locals will scorn you in thier hearts and minds. In fact when I lived there I used to pass by a Laundry mat named called "Don't Call it Frisco" Laundry...enjoy.

*Update  Sep 2013: I would now suggest using Procreate as a mobile art app. For non pressure sensitive styluses (or is it styli?) I still like the PenGo stylus because of it's removable tips.

People sketchin' @ Disneyland and an Angels game.

Here's a quick sketch tribute to the people of Anaheim! I made these with a 0.5 Uniball Signo pen which just happens to be water soluable. The water effects are made using a plastic japanese brush that hold water in its handle and releases it through the brush hairs when it's squeezed. You can pick both up a brushpens.com or a Kinokuniya book store.

Cell phone painting!

Have you been looking for a quick way to develop Carpal Tunnel Syndrome? Or are you simply trying to find an activity that will push your repetitive stress disorder even further? Well friend, I have the answer you have been looking for. Have you considered trying to digitally paint on a cell phone?
Here's a bunch of characters drawn and painted from life with a stylus and an old jail broken I-phone. Painting on a phone is great because no one catches you sketching them, they just think your texting someone or playing a game, buy OY-Vey painting on that little surface gives you such a crick in the neck! (and wrist)...Anyway enjoy these phone paintings of characters inspired by real people on buses, in malls, in bars, and other every day situations.
p.s. If your from my home town, you may recognize a few folks from Bar of America. I popped in to visit a few friends and did a couple sketches there on my last trip.
